Promotional Film

Do you know what it is to be a responder? We thought that it would be a great idea to shoot a film showing the life saving work we do.

In steps Bob & Lesley Ede of Bob Ede Tv. Not only do they step up to the bar and take on our filming requirements, they also donated all their time and expertise free of charge to Hayling Community responders.

We cant thank them enough for their efforts and look forward to seeing the end result in the not to distant future.

When its available folks, I will inform you of where you can see a little insight into the world of your community responders
HICR Moves up a gear!!!
14-04-2008
Its been hard work for all of our team over the last 2 years. Fundraising, attending calls(1150)and promoting community responders in general. But still the enthusiasm of our guys and girls knows no bounds.

Hayling Island Community Responders (HICR) is now about to depart from its traditional role of just answering 999 calls in aid of all those on the island. We are about to take life saving training into the community, as we make it our goal to make Hayling Island one of the safest places to live.

To do this we have worked tirelessly, and have been absolutley bowled over by the generosiy of so many people both on and off our island. So after nearly 12 months in the making we can reveal our not quite finished "Display and Education Trailer" (see photo)

This trailer will enable us to take our training out to the general public, as we join up with the British Heart Foundation and deliver life saving training all over Hayling.

In addition to this HICR will be training people and then deploying 4 Automated Defibrilators to locations around the island.

All of this is planned for this year. So folks please help us by donating whatever you can, and help make Hayling a safer place.
Keep Your Eyes Peeled! we do!!!!!

Have you seen us around?

Its more than likely you have. Our team aims to cover the whole of Hayling 24hrs a day, 7 days a week and provides emergency care to those in need.

If you see the community responders car, please spare us thought. If during the day you see us and the cars lights are on we are responding to a 999 call. If you can and it is safe to do so please allow us to pass. It may be someone you know who we are going to!!

How do we keep our eyes peeled then? well at night have you ever thought how difficult it is to see your house number from the street?

Trust me I can tell you from experience that in some cases it can be nigh on impossible. Delays in finding addresses can add valuable minutes to a patient with a serious condtion.

Help us to help you by displaying a clear number or house name at the edge of your property where it meets the road. This will save us time when we come to your aid in the early hours of the morning.

So we will keep an eye out for you... can you keep one out for us?
Its all for charity mate!!!!! not arff

Hayling Island Community Responders is charity organisation which aims to provide rapid emergency treatment on Hayling in support of the ambulance service.

This is only made possible by two things!!

The total commitment of our volunteers, who answer 999 calls whaterver the time, whatever the weather 24hrs a day 7 days a week, 365 days a year. (yes even over christmas we are still on duty)

The generosity of the public, who supply us with much needed donations which fund our equipment, consumables and running expenses.

Without YOU we would not be able to continue our life saving work.

So next time you see one of our collection boxes as you buy a paper, why not drop the change in the tin and do your part to save someones life today.
YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED
09-10-2006
Often we are approached by islanders who ask questions about what we do.

YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

1. I saw a Responder car driving up and down our road why was this?

At night it is difficult to make out house numbers and especially names. Make sure that you have a clearly visible door number or house name. Time for some people is a matter of life or death.

2. I have a large dog, is there anything I should do before you turn up?

Remove any pets, particularly dogs to another room. It is difficult for us to treat you with an excited and often protective pet around.

3. How long does it take you to get to an emergency call?

Stay calm. We try to be with you in under 8 minutes from the time you dial 999

4. Why does the Responder car drive round during the day with its full beam on?

If you see the Responder Car with its headlights on during the day, or the green light displayed at night. This means that it is on route to a 999 call. Please be courteous and, where possible and safe to do so, allow us to get to our destination unimpeded.

5. I don’t want to bother the ambulance, can I call you directly?

You cannot call a First Responder directly as we are tasked by Hampshire Ambulance Control. If you are unwell or require medical assistance that cannot be sorted out by your GP or the out of hours service. In an emergency dial 999.
